  9. Take 75 g Spaghetti per person
  10. Prepare Parmesan Cheese (to serve)
  11. Make ready Olive oil (to cook)

While your bolognese is simmering, this is an ideal time to prepare the spaghetti. Simply add a dash of olive oil and salt to your saucepan of boiled water, followed by the spaghetti. Allow to simmer until cooked, which should be around the same time the bolognese is fully cooked. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired or needed.

Instructions to make Spicy Spaghetti Bolognese:
  1. Fry the chopped onion and red pepper over a medium heat with a little olive oil for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add crushed garlic and allow to simmer for a further 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add two cans of chopped tomatoes and raise the heat a little. Fill one can halfway with water and add this to the mix also.
  4. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of chilli powder and one teaspoon of white granulated sugar. The sugar helps to take away some of the acid from the tinned tomatoes.
  5. While the sauce still has a lot of liquid, add the quartered mushroom and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Break up and stir in the minced beef, keeping a can of water handy in case the mixture becomes too thick. Cover and cook for 30 mins on a medium heat. If the sauce needs thickening, remove the cover.
  7. Cook your choice of pasta as per the instructions on the packet.
  8. Add around two teaspoons of tomato paste and stir through the sauce for 2-3 mins. Season with salt and cracked black pepper to taste.
  9. Serve up with grated parmesan over the top, and if you want a real treat, garlic bread on the side.

Allow to simmer until cooked, which should be around the same time the bolognese is fully cooked. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired or needed. Prepare the pasta noodles according to package instructions. To serve you can either mix the cooked sauce into the cooked pasta, or serve the bolognese on top of the noodles. Stir with a wooden spoon, breaking up the plum tomatoes.
